AAC Awareness Month – 2025

October is AAC Awareness Month! From dedicated technology devices to icons, writing and sign language, these books highlight the rich diversity of communication. What is AAC? AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, refers to anything other than speech that a person uses to meet their communication needs. Who uses AAC? We all use AAC when we gesture, use facial expressions, write notes, or text. AAC can also include assistive technology such as speech-generating devices. Some individuals use AAC as their primary means of communication, whereas others use AAC to augment speech. (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
