“Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan is a wonderful love story of two young adults from Chinese backgrounds. Rachel Chu is an economics professor at New York University, and Nicolas Young, her boyfriend, is actually one of the sons of the richest family in Singapore with a multimillion net worth. It isn't until Nicolas takes Rachel to Singapore over the summer for a trip that Rachel learns of his highly influential celebrity status in Singapore. Nicolas’ mother and her friends try everything in their power to get Rachel to break up with Nicolas, as they don’t see her as a suitable companion for their son. Although Nicolas and Rachel are attending one of Nicolas’ friend’s wedding, the experience is anything but enjoyable for Rachel, who has to constantly prove her worth to the judgmental aunties. But despite everything that transpires on their trip, Nicolas and Rachel’s love is stronger than the obstacles they face. I loved this book a lot, and I enjoyed its movie adaptation as well, which was just as amazing. I loved all the crazy characters and outrageous events that took place throughout the story, as it made the plot all more interesting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a short good read with a somewhat crazy plot line.
