While I take less pleasure in this novel than I did fifteen years ago, I still appreciate Austen's nuanced snapshots of relationships. It is just plain good fun observing the endless tiny agonies of Victorians trying to decode, discreetly, each other's romantic signals. As always, I deplore the constraints of respectable society on the characters, especially the single women, but rejoice in their growing confidence during the course of the narrative.
