Another case of "I should not have read all the reviews". I enjoyed this book but it just didn't live up to the hype. I originally wanted to read this so I could watch the show and understand what everyone on tumblr was obsessing over. Maybe part of what was off-putting was how the narrator for the aduiobook purposefully used a deeper and adult voice for Adam, who is only supposed to be 11. It kind of took away from the whole point of the fate of the universe being in the hands of a pre-teen. Don't get me wrong, I laughed and my 12 years of christian school paid off - I got the references and felt smart. But I don't think you need that level of understanding in order to appreciate what's going on here. The broader philosophical tones aren't locked in to any particular faith or religion. I probably would have loved this book a lot more in high school. The show is good though!
