I'm not a big fan of martial arts films, but I've seen my share, and this one is by far the best I've seen. What sets it apart are the magnificent sets, the beautiful scenery, the amazing choreography, and its heart. The movie explores themes of revenge, love and friendhip in a way that you might not expect from a typical martial arts film. Some of the dialogue seems wooden, especially at the beginning, but I think you have to keep in mind the historical and geographical context: this is a highly traditional, very eastern culture, near the turn of the last century.
