Oona Out of Order is perfect for someone looking for something different! It is such a creative novel and so much more than I expected it to be. At the stroke of midnight on each New Year's, which is also Oona's birthday, she starts a new year, but not like everybody else. She "leaps" to different ages, but not in chronological order. This is a really unique concept and I don't think I've ever read something quite like it. Since you are learning about Oona's life out of order with her, it's impossible to predict what will happen next. I'm so sad that it ended. I know logically that it ended at a beautiful point and made a nice story arc, but gosh darn it I just want to read about EVERY single second of Oona's life and EVERY conversation she has and EVERY moment of these years, and to see how it all unfolds. I need sequels, Margarita!! If we would have gotten a little more end of the Dale story, and find out what happens to the “next year” date guy I would have rated it 5 stars.

My only complaint is that it ended. This fast paced, surprising, bittersweet, and unique story was compulsively readable. I love a story where I start contemplating what my reaction to the situation would be, and this is a doozy of one! A book club would have a fun and lively discussion on this. There was a lacking of depth in Oona’s character development, but I still devoured it.

A creative book about a young woman, who every year during New Year’s Eve on her birthday wakes up into a random time of her life. She can wake up in the future or the past and get to live her life for that year. While the book is difficult to comprehend and follow at first, you quickly get into the routine of her ‘leaping’ – much like Oona does. I found myself looking forward to see how old she’ll be in her next leap – both mentally and physically. My one and only complaint is that I wished that there was an epilogue where she looked back on her life and drew her own conclusions to the crazy life that she was allowed to live.

This was a most imaginative and cute story, but it was kind of hard to keep track of. Oona's leaps weren't only tough on her, they're tough on the reader as well.
I also wished there was a chapter of older Oona, maybe looking back on all of her leaps, but there wasn't. I think such would have added some depth to the story. There were some interesting surprises though.
Overall, the book really never made it out of my fluff category; which was ok as I needed something easy and frivolous to read.

Oh, this is a delightful book, easy to be consumed in one day. Oona is celebrating New Year’s Eve in 1982, just before her 19th birthday. Then her live out of order when at 12:01am on January 1st, she wakes up in a different year of her life. And those years bring different challenges and loves and enjoyments. I am so glad I’m not Oona having to live my life out of order…. much more challenging than living the same Groundhog’s day over and over.

i had my misgivings, but this was rather a magical mystery tour. don't read the spoilers and let yourself discover oona's life progression as she does.

Phenomenal! This novel is simply beautiful, but there is nothing simple about it. It's a complicated tale, but you've already read the synopsis and don't need me to explain that. A refreshingly unique premise, perfectly executed. Absolutely cannot wait for more from this author. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, I was sobbing tears of joy and sorrow by the end. My only complaint is that it's over! I would have happily read about every single year of Oona's life. My 2020 favorite so far. READ THIS BOOK!!!

A New & Noteworthy pick. Time travel in a whole new way. Every New Year’s Day Oona wakes up at a different age, and not in order. Fun and unique and a great for book clubs.

A contender for my favorite book of the year. Oona Out of Order explores life and the lessons we learn along the way from a fresh, new angle. Imagine being 18 one moment and suddenly in your 50s the next, with no memory of everything in between. Then after a year of adjustment and some catching up, you are transported to a 27 year old you, with still only the life experience and emotional maturity of a 19 year old. And this happens again, and again, and again. How do you cope with abrupt changes in technology, culture, and your body??? How do you maintain relationships, or find the courage to start them? Life's bad stuff and the fabulous stuff still happens. How much would future, but younger or older you (this is confusing until you read it) warn yourself about if you could? But what amazing experiences would you spoil for yourself in the process? Would it be worth it? This book gave my brain lots to work through and has me reflecting on my own life and choices in new ways.

I'm happy to give Oona Out of Order 5 stars. Margarita Montimore handled this complex undertaking brilliantly. 👏 And that twist!!!! I never saw it coming. I LOVE an unexpected twist. My only complaint is I wish there was more. I became so emotionally invested in these characters, I needed to experience a few more leaps. There is certainly more to Oona's story.

When you're 19 years old, pass out at a New Year's party and wake up in your 51 year old body.....
