This is the second book in the Highway 59 series.

African American Texas Ranger Darren Matthews tracks a vanished nine-year-old boy with family ties to the Aryan Brotherhood. A beautifully written crime novel in which the brutally honest Ranger confronts hatred in its most virulent form. - From Booklist review

This is a continuation of the series featuring Darren Mathews, the Black Texas Ranger. As a Ranger he is pretty good at solving mysterious murders and crimes, but he is tragically flawed as a person. That makes for some pretty tough reading. In his head he is pretty much lost; he drinks too much, he doubts his friends and his family and it affects his job. The novel spent too much time in angst, too little time in action. At times it seems like reading a soap opera in which nothing is truly resolved. I am torn.

Once again, Locke has given us a book with a topical theme - white supremacy and the Ayrian Brotherhood of Texas, moral dilemmas and a very good story.
