When the Hatter shoves him into a porcelain teapot painted with the New York City's skyline, he's thrilled to be transported to a magnificent new world where clocks are working. Soon he learns that the Pork Pie Gang of weasels is preparing to hold a concert that will stop time for the metropolis's residents. He must not--cannot--fall asleep as he is destined to save a magical world outside of Wonderland by foiling this nefarious plot. This is an adorable, niche and endearing book about the mouse int eh never ending tea party in Alice in Wonderland. I love the quirky brilliant tone the book sets as Bernard finds himself in New York City and in the midst of a crisis involving the Pork Pie Gang! Will he find a way to stop them? Such a great read for kids or adults!

Bernard the dormouse is thrown into the teapot by the Mad Hatter and finds himself swimming in the Hudson River. Thus begins his adventures in Manhattan as he attempts to thwart the evil plan of the weasels to stop time. For a little mouse, he covers a lot of ground via assorted transportation options including the subway, a taxicab and a falcon. My two favorites are his attempt to cross Turtle Pond in Central Park via the backs of turtles and riding in the cuffs of humans. Quite entertaining and full of action. The weasels really creeped me out, but Bernard was a trooper! The illustrations in the paperback ARC I received were quite engaging and I anticipate that the finished artwork will be even more complementary to the narrative. Would make a fantastic classroom read aloud!

Reminiscent of "A Cricket in Times Square" and with fun allusions to "Alice in Wonderland." Bernard escapes from a tea party stuck in time and teams up with new friends and sometimes surprising allies to keep New York from suffering the same fate.

A Great Books for Great Kids pick. When a young girl crashes the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, the Dormouse finds himself on a whimsical adventure of his own. Can he stay awake to save the magical world of New York City from the dastardly plot of the Pork Pie Weasels? Grades 2-6.
