Friends and strangers have given this 5 stars and I thought it would be a book that would meet me where I'm at. unfortunately it wasn't for me. After finally getting just over half way through a couple weeks in I'm putting it down. I used to think I need to finish a book of I start it... even if I'm bored out of my tree but I'm a an age where I don't have time for that. I found this to dry and boring to carry on. It clearly spoke to meant ppl but I'm not one of them.

Beautiful read! I heard Niequist spoke and I sense the honesty and vulnerability of her words! This book spoke to me the same way! And that I'm ok not to be busy and not to be perfect! Highly recommended!

~A nice reminder of what is important in life, which is somehow easy to lose track of in the busyness of every day. This book was written by a woman with whom I could relate. That is to say, she's a normal person with plenty to do. She's not an oblate or someone with a natural proclivity for sitting motionless for hours on end. I found her stories believable, reasonable and inspiring.

Am I, just from reading the book, experiencing a "simpler, more soulful way of living." Not yet. :-) I guess it takes mindfulness, effort and presence. Darn! If only someone would write THAT book...

First off, this is a very God centered book, if you don’t like that then this book might not work for you. I found that the author has a very different life from mine, but the overall themes were applicable to me. The specifics didn’t help, but overall it inspired me. The author lived a very busy career based life, flying all over the country 40+ times a year giving speeches and leaving her family behind. This book is her journey to overcome that. It isn’t a how to book, there isn’t much concrete advice, just her journey. I think a lot of people can relate the overall themes and bits of information to their own situations, but the details will be unrelatable to many.

I had heard such great things about this book that I was excited when I saw our library carried it. I'm not sure what I was expecting from the book, maybe some suggestions on ways to change your life, but whatever it was, it didn't come through. I felt pretty disappointed throughout the entire book. It was like the author spent the whole time saying that her life used to be hectic and always chasing movement and perfection and busyness but now she isn't. But how? Why? What tips and tricks do you want to share with the rest of us? "Make the decision to slow down." "Get a basketball hoop." "Throw candy." Again, maybe those resonated with others, but for me I walked away expecting and hoping for so much more.

I enjoyed the book and it was like reading my inner voice that is always saying, "Don't forget you're important in your own life." It is definitely spiritually based, so if you are a non-religious person, this might not be the book for you. If you look past all of the "God stuff," it is a motivational and easy read. As a religious person myself, I enjoyed the spiritual component.
