The robbery at a supermarket is a standard case -- until manager Guido Borsellino is later found hanging in his office. The inspector and the coroner have their doubts that it was suicide, and further investigation leads to the director of a powerful local company. Meanwhile, a girl is found brutally murdered in Giovanni Strangio's apartment. Giovanni has a flawless alibi, and it's no coincidence that Michele Strangio, president of the province, is his father. The two crimes converge, and Montalbano realizes that political power is enmeshed with the mafia underworld

Camilleri at his best. A bit more intricate case(s) this time. You can start to hear Camilleri's distaste for organised crime and abhorrence of government who support and enable them. Highly recommended.

The Montbalbano series is wonderful. We've thought that we had read all of them and then found "A Voice in the Night". It was like being reunited with an old friend.

Not my favorite in the series. The theme of Montalbano feeling old @ only 58 is portrayed in several books and has become a bit tiresome and does not add to a plot that could be more compelling.
