Fans of Rick Riordan’s popular “Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods” and “The Heroes of Olympus” books will gleefully welcome this new, oversized, colourfully-illustrated collection of twelve stories about various ancient Greek heroes, including Perseus, Atalanta, Bellerophon, Hercules, Jason and others.
Titles such as “Hercules Does Twelve Stupid Things”, “Theseus Slays the Mighty – Oh Look! A Bunny Rabbit!” and “Whatever It Is, Bellerophon Didn’t Do It” confirm that Percy Jackson’s characteristic amusing, witty and irrelevant narrative style continues in this companion volume to “Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods”.
Readers are invited to “put on their lion skin cape, polish their shield and ensure that they have lots of arrows with them” before venturing four thousand years into the past to find answers to such burning questions as “Who tamed Perseus … and how did he outwit the evil Gray Sisters?”, “Who was raised by a she-bear?” and “How did Bellerophon come to be the king of Lycia after defeating the Amazons?”
In narrating these adventures, Percy Jackson breathes new life and new perspectives into the traditional myths that he retells (and embellishes) of the ancient Greek heroes and gods, including both famous and lesser-known figures. The tales are fun, intriguing and easy to read, and range from 12 to 71 pages in length. A bibliography with suggestions for further reading – and an index – complete the book.
Rick Riordan is a best-selling, high-profile author who writes both for children and adults, and illustrator John Rocco is a Caldecott Honor Award winner.
