I did not finish it because I couldn't hear what he was saying.

'Something More than Free' didn't grab me in quite the same way as 'Southeastern' - it took a few listens to sink in just how good it is! Isbell is on a roll.

Year-end 2015 lists seem to unanimously agree that Something More Than Free was among the best of the year. There are a lot of great songs on this album, but the ones that grab me and don't let go are "24 Frames" and the title track.

This is truly one great songwriter, and he's only getting better! I caught a Music program from 2014 recently where in between, songs, he stated from an early age he realized he had nothing to say,so he listened to all the tales from his relatives and wrote about them, with some twists,oh the artistic process! This release is pretty good, certainly a step up from his previous releases, the playing (400 unit) is first rate, and the song writing is well, fabulous.

Jason Isbell has been called one of the best songwriters of his generation and I think that's true. What more can I say? Except maybe that his name is pronounced "Izbull", and the second track is titled "24 Frames".
