I didn't particularly like this Horowitz novel although I usually look forward to reading his writing. Perhaps Horowitz had included too many mechanical details that I just didn't find interesting. Might make a good movie though - Horowitz excels in movie scripts too - as the action kept me reading to the end.

Bond is back. Set in 1957. Mix together an ex-Peenemunde German rocket scientist now working for the USA, satellites, SMERSH, espionage, sabotage, Grand Prix auto racing at Nürburgring , a very mean Korean businessman, high power explosives, three beautiful women, and Bond; what do you get? Nothing not to like, that's for sure. Author Horowitz -- granted access from the Fleming Estate to notes and original plot material Ian Fleming developed before he died -- does an excellent job of re-creating Fleming's wit and style. As with many Bond stories, one has to be willing to suspend disbelief along the way, but overall a rock-rolling fun time for Bond fans. Very much recommended.

I checked this book out because I thought it had been written by Tony Horwitz not Tony Horowitz! I read many James Bond books long ago and have since realized there are a lot better adventure thrillers out there. Poor James isn't that intriguing anymore. The novels have always been corny but have created such fun, silly, and "out there" movies! I confess that I didn't read more than 10 pages, maybe it gets better?

Easily the most casual and uninteresting novel of modern times ! Barely touches any level of suspense or character exposure. Pretends to continue Flemming's obsession with artifacts and cultural guff - but does that even poorly. Disappointing and not the slightest bit fun or edgy. Another effort by lazy publishers to trade on brand or past success without any effort or serious concentration. Skip it.
