The Page Turners is an evening book discussion group for adults that meets at the Castro Valley Library on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.
Facilitated by librarian Chris Selig, the discussions focus on compelling, well-reviewed fiction and nonfiction books written for adults.
For August we will discuss Our Town: A Play in Three Acts by Thornton Wilder.
Synopsis
Our Town explores the relationship between two young neighbors, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage. When Emily loses her life during childbirth, the circle of life portrayed in each of the three acts--childhood, adulthood, and death --is fully realized.
Our Town is a play. We have the print version available in the Library and through Link Plus. You can read any edition.
You can also watch a recording of the play staged in 1976 at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. It can be found in the Alexander Street Performing Arts Collection, in the Library's eLibrary. A library card and PIN is required.
