Join acclaimed graphic novelist Maia Kobabe (e, em, eir), in conversation with AC Library staff, for a reading and discussion about eir groundbreaking book, Gender Queer: A Memoir. Award-winning and one of the most frequently challenged books in the United States, Gender Queer is a transformative work in LGBTQ+ literature, spanning themes of self-discovery, identity, expression, and gender beyond the binary.
Seats are limited, and a ticket is required to attend. Tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the start of the program. Community members will receive a free copy of Gender Queer while supplies last.
Maia Kobabe (e/em/eir) is the author/illustrator of the graphic novel Gender Queer: A Memoir, which was the most challenged book in the U.S. in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Maia’s comics have been published in The New Yorker, The Washington Post, and anthologies including Banned Together: Our Fight for Readers’ Rights. Maia’s second book, the nonfiction comic Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding, co-written with Dr. Sarah Peitzmeier, was published in 2024, and eir debut middle-grade graphic novel, OPTING OUT, co-written with Swati “Lucky” Srikumar, is set to published in 2026.
