We welcome you to Albany Library’s monthly book club discussion. The club meets every third Saturday to discuss selecting reading materials. Materials selected for reading and discussion are to be determined by the whole club. The group is open to adults as well as teens, and the number of participants is 12. Please consider joining us for this event.
Pick of the Month:
The Poet and the Silk Girl
The Poet and the Silk Girl by Satsuki Ina is a memoir about her parents' love story and resistance during World War II Japanese American incarceration using their letters, diaries (her mother Shizuko's), and haiku (her father Itaru's) to reveal their experiences in concentration camps, exploring generational trauma, civil rights, and resilience. Born in camp herself, Ina weaves their words with her psychotherapist insights to connect their wartime ordeal to ongoing struggles against injustice, highlighting how family history informs the fight for belonging and human dignity (Source: Alice Yang, Professor of History and Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Pacific War Memories).
