Description

Juneteenth, or June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.  

To celebrate this day, Mrs. Jean Ficklin will be a special guest. She was the first African American teacher in the Newark Schools, starting in 1964.  

The Newark Library storytime room is named in honor of Mrs. Ficklin. Mrs. Jean Ficklin oral history and transcript

Also, featuring the book Trombone Shorty, written by Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, presented with live trombone accompaniment by Joe Stoner, Newark Library Manager.  

Please join us for storytime at the library!

Children of all ages and families are welcome! 

This program will take place in the plaza outside the Newark Library.
