City of Newark - Civic Center Grand Opening

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM


Come and Join us in celebration of the new Newark Civic Center - home to: 

  • City Hall (named for former Mayor David W. Smith)
  • Newark Police Department
  • Newark Library (named for Mayor Alan L. Nagy) 

Ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 11 am.  

Activities include:  

  • tours
  • food
  • live music
  • games
  • lion dancers

The library will not open until the end of the ribbon cutting ceremony, at approximately 11:45 am.  The Buu Kim Tu Lion Dancers will enter the library first.  

Note:  To accomodate the festivities, on May 14, the City of Newark will be blocking Newark Blvd from the intersection of Thornton Ave to the intersection with Civic Terrace Ave.
